I feel like an emo kid because I’m sitting around in the dark. I had an eye exam where they dialated my pupils so ridiculously that the light is still bothering my eyes. I am so thankful for these sunny days, but ouch. So in the spirit of my emo kid days, here’s a survey. The emoness and the surveyness are only related because during my emo years I did a lot of Internet surveys. That’s it.

1. Make a list of 5 things that are in reach: teacup, chapstick, Braillenote, iPod, random papers

2. What is your favorite time of the year?
Fall!
3. What is one item without which you'd never leave the house?
My Keys
4. What's your favourite highlighter colour?
Um… red I guess? Do they make red high-lighters?

5. Dark, milk, or white chocolate?
Definitely dark
6. Who was the last person you hugged?
Aurora
7. What random song just popped in your head now?
The theme from Friends...
8. Bath or shower?
Depends. I mostly take showers, but I love a bath every once in a while.
9. What was the last text message you received?
One from Noelle saying she was on her way over
10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
Gmail, Facebook, LJ, Yelp
11. What was the last thing you bought?
My shiny new ukulele!
12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I’d go back to Ecuador! Also anywhere but here. I’m not picky.
13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Um… alive?
14. Where's your tattoo/Where would you like a tattoo?
A hummingbird on my shoulder.
15. What are you doing this weekend?
Trio rehearsal on Friday, Spanish-
English conversation on Saturday morning, hanging with Teresa Saturday afternoon, Molly’s triathlon on Sunday. And groceries. Seriously.
16. Why are you answering these questions in full-blown narrative paragraphs?
I don’t get it. Am I supposed to answer this question in full-blown narrative paragraphs or are you accusing me of answering the previous questions in full-blown narrative paragraphs? And who am I talking to?
17. What's the one thing you need the most now?
Salvation? 
18. Are you a creeper?
Not in general, but if I really want to find something out and be creepy about it, I get it done.
19. How do you take your coffee?
Black if I’m just waking up, with cream if I’m feeling decadent, and in Irish form if I’m feeling dangerous. 
20. What's the last good movie you saw?
Black Swan was good. I’ll never need to see it again, but it was definitely good.

Writer's Block: Snacks, don't fail me now

When you're feeling down, what comfort foods do you enjoy?

Usually when I am anxious or stressed, I can't eat. I wish I were one of those people who ate for comfort, but alas. However, if the anxiety is not too bad I crave bread: bagels with lots of sesame seeds, scones, ciabata, that sort of thing. Bring on the carbs. And i usually crave tea with a lot of milk and honey. I swear it goes back to when I was in Spain and my host mom would give me cups of chamomile tea to settle my stomach and calm my nerves.

Day 29 – Your aspirations
So... the next three days are gonna be busybusy, and since I'm awake (hello free Starbucks coffee, you were so lovely four hours ago), I thought i'd pound out the rest of this meme. Hmmm, that didn't come out quite like I wanted. OK shut up Ren, and get on with it.
Right, my aspirations. I feel like I already did this with my dreams. is there a difference? Right now, and until you hear from me again, my aspirations are to have somewhere to call home, to go back to school, to learn and talk to people and be present in my life and in the lives of those I love. It's not anything grand, but those diva days are over for me. and that's all good.
Day 30 – One last moment
day 31: Halloweens of the past (I made this one up, since this meme was originally
intended for September but now it's October)

Day 28 – Something that you miss
Mostly, I miss friends I'm not in touch with any more. I am a terrible correspondent and I always claim I'll do better... and I have, marginally, but I still mostly fail.

Day 27, I'm almost done!!!!

Day 27 – Your favorite place
Reluctant as I am to pin down a favorite anything, and taking some liberties with the word "place", here are some cities I like.
1. Minneapolis. So obvious, but can't be said enough. Why do I live here year after year when it's forty below in January, and that's not even the wind chill? Because there is so much to love in the Twin Cities. Good food, a fabulous local music scene, a really decent countercultural vibe, the Wedge, Midtown Global Market, the Smitten Kitten, the Greenway, Lake Calhoun, the Green Mill, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, May Day Cafe... nobody cares, but I could go on and on. and the people are so kind (forget the superficial "Minnesota nice", people genuinely look out for one another here). and I love the Minnesota mentality of going out and having fun in any kind of weather imagineable. while I'm sitting at home going, "it's raining, I don't want to go to (insert festival/entertainment event here)", my Minnesotan friends are at my door with umbrellas and unfashionable rain gear. Yeah, I want to travel, and I want to experience living somewhere besides the midwest for an extended amount of time, but Minneapolis is the place I really grew up. and I won't forget that.
2. Quito: the city of my soul, with so many contradictions: lush and green, full of smog and people, noisy and serene. home to some of the best people I've ever met (and some of the best parties I've ever attended).
3. Berlin: so old-world, so modern, so easy to get lost and to discover something new. I didn't get nearly enough time there.

the real day 24

Day 24 – Something that makes you cry
Well, there's all the usual suspects: injustice, sadness, anger, I'm a Cancer, etc... But what always surprises me is when I cry during movies or songs. I have many acquaintances who veer towards the dramatic and EVERYTHING makes them cry: Halmark commercials, when someone dies in Harry Potter, the song "Amazing Grace." Most of the time, I don't understand all the tears over things that are not immediately tangible or felt, so I'm always caught off guard by my occasional bouts of waterworks over these trivialities. Here are a few:
1. When Angel dies in Rent... I know she's gonna die, you know she's gonna die, everybody and their brother knows... I've seen Rent so many times that I could probably quote it, and yet, there it is: I always have to have a tissue handy.
2. the Eva Cassidy version of "Autumn Leaves." Oh man. That quiet guitar and her voice so full of shades of joy and sadness. Gets me every time.
3. At the end of Dead Poets Society where everyone is standing and you can hear bagpipes. So most people think they sound like dying cats, but to me they are such conveyors of grief and victory. Must be my Irish ancestry.
